Vitamin C is hailed the Queen of immunity-boosting vitamins helping us stay strong when surrounded by cold and flu's. But that's not all it's good for.
Vitamin C is also an antioxidant that supports our body in an array of ways.
- Helping skin health and longevity by protecting our body from oxidative stress and damage
- Helps protect our body from attacks in the first place, and secondly, by helping us to fight off infections quicker.
- Healing tissue, maintaining blood vessels, and growing bones, ligaments, and skin
- Increases the absorption of iron
Great news huh?
How do we make sure we are getting enough of this hero micronutrient?
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient meaning our bodies can't make it naturally, so we need to get it from foods and supplements.
Eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C is one of the best ways to get in this super nutrient as not only do you get in the Vitamin C but also numerous other vitamins, antioxidants, phytonutrients, minerals, and fibre that come with it.
Blackcurrants (our fave), citrus fruits, capsicums and kiwifruit are great sources of vitamin C... when they've been freshly picked! 80% of the water-soluble vitamins in produce are lost within four days of harvest. So unless we are shopping locally and seasonally it's unlikely we are eating produce within this timeframe.
It can then be tricky to get it from food alone! Lucky our superfood Shots are freeze-dried, locking in the nutrient value of the plants.
The Ministry of Health recommended daily intake of vitamin C for adults is 45mg. One Double Shot contains 51mg of vitamin, 127% of your RDI!
