Spray-free boysenberry

The 'super' superfood

Boysenberries contain high levels of anthocyanins and flavonoids, with potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They also contain high levels of vitamin C, K and folate. Research has linked anthocyanins to improved eyesight, reducing inflammation, protection from cardiovascular disease and from the effects of ageing.

Nutritional content

Boysenberries contain high quantities of a powerful class of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients (plant nutrients) known as anthocyanins.

Recent data shows that the boysenberry contains more anthocyanins than many other berries. Boysenberries are a good source of vitamin C and K1, and are high in fibre. They provide a range of nutrients for very few calories, and they are also one of the lowest sugar fruits.

Where our boysenberries are grown

Our boysenberries are grown in Nelson, New Zealand where they enjoy an abundance of sunshine and rich fertile soils. Our farmers ensure tight traceability and a hands-on approach to deliver the best, most nutritious fruit possible.

Benefits

Known as a good source of energy due to the high level of antioxidants.

Boysenberries take good care of your skin. Oxidative stress lies at the basis of biological ageing, so consuming polyphenols from foods like boysenberries help to increase cell and tissue resilience to environmental damage and keep our bodies looking and feeling younger!

The antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents in boysenberries have been shown to reduce cardiovascular disease risk factors, including lowering triglycerides and blood pressure. Boysenberries have a phenomenal potassium to sodium ratio, which can contribute to reducing the risk of hypertension.

Boysenberries are a good source of vitamin K, which helps to retain calcium in the bone matrix, thereby decreasing the risk for osteoporosis.

Boysenberries are a good source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a potent natural water-soluble antioxidant that helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and eliminates cancer-causing free radicals in the body.

Boysenberries produce a compound called Ellagic acid, which is a potent antioxidant with anti viral and antibiotic properties. This helps to disrupt hormonal and metabolic pathways associated with certain cancers. Ellagic acid may also be useful in preventing certain cancers due to it's ability to inhibit chemical induced carcinogenesis. (35, 36, 37, 38, 39)

Boysenberries have very high levels of natural and bioavailable folate, which is of special interest to women of childbearing age. Boysenberries provide 30% of the RDA of folate in 100g of berries.

Several components of boysenberries, such as potassium, folate, and various antioxidants are known to provide neurological benefits. Folate has been known to reduce the occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease and cognitive decline.
