Feeling your best starts with being healthy. We all focus on supporting our immunity through the Winter months to avoid coughs and colds, but Spring, Summer and Autumn should be no different. It’s no surprise that in Spring especially we pay special attention to staying well and looking our best so that we can enjoy our day-to-day pleasures and have the energy to hit the beach on those sunny weekends.
There are some simple ‘healthy life rules’ you can follow to help you feel great all year round; boost your energy, support your immunity and glow on the outside.
Eat enough of the good stuff
We often hear the saying “Eat well, look good, feel great!”, a saying we are firm believers in. Eating a well-balanced diet with lots of fruits and vegetables not only nourishes your body from within and helps support your immunity, that glowing skin and beautiful hair you strive for starts from the inside out. Two of the most effective and convenient ways to get those extra nutrients in are with superfood powders and broths. Bone broth dates back to prehistoric times, when hunter-gatherers turned otherwise inedible animal parts like bones, hooves, and knuckles into a broth they could drink. Bone and veggie broths are full of nutrients and known to be beneficial to your health, and when used in place of water or stock in recipes they make a much healthier not to mention tastier dish! We love the organic broths from The Little Bone Broth Company. The other way is to take your Double Shot daily which gives you 4 of your 5 a day.
Get some go-go-go
Exercise isn’t just for building muscles and helping yourself destress. It’s an important part of being healthy and supporting your immune system. Studies have shown that as little as 30 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous exercise helps to stimulate your immune system. As the weather warms up, getting outside for a run or a brisk walk also means you’ll get a dose of vitamin D which does wonders for our bodies and helps you connect with nature – a sure way to help you feel good.
Watch those baddies
Over the summer months especially it’s easy for us to let loose and begin ingesting more bad foods and toxins than we are aware of. Our favourite way to help our bodies manage this is with a daily shot of green superfoods which are known to chelate to toxins in the body to help flush them out! Bone broth is also known for being easy to digest and help improve the health of your digestive system.
Getting a bit of vitamin D every day does wonders for our bodies and minds. Whether you get outside for exercise or just play with your dog, getting some sunshine directly on your skin helps your body produce vitamin D. How much you need depends on many factors such as your skin colour, age, weight, how much vitamin D you get from your food, your location and time of day. Please make sure you’re careful when getting out in the sun in New Zealand as you should never get sun burnt. The Ministry of Health has guidelines around vitamin D requirements and sensible sun exposure here.
Get those zzz’s
It’s no surprise that getting enough sleep is important for our health. Your body needs time to recuperate and recharge, not just physically but mentally as well. Good sleep can be negatively affected by a number of things, but we’ve found a good diet, exercise, mindful thinking and the all-important bedtime routine can be helpful. We ran a survey of our customers in 2020 and one of the benefits they reported after taking their Nutrient Rescue Double Shot was improved sleep, so if you’re struggling with this then you might want to give our superfood powders a go.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
Our bodies are made up of around 60% water. It’s no surprise that if you don’t drink enough water you’re not going to feel your best, and your body won’t be able to function as well as it should. It’s recommended that adults drink 6 glasses of water a day. Don’t wait till you’re thirsty, keep your water intake up. If you’re not a fan of drinking plain water then add a slice of lemon or some freeze dried berries to lightly sparkled water, or warm up a cup of The Little Bone Broth Company’s broth which will hydrate you, top of your nutrients and taste yummy. If you’re interested in more detail around why water is so important for your body to function, then read this article by Healthline.
None of this is rocket science, it just requires a bit of attention and sticking power. Make these three golden rules your mantra: Keep it real. Keep it simple. Keep it up.
