Where our organic spearmint is grown

Our organic spearmint is grown in the Banks Peninsula. This is a unique part of Canterbury which has a geologically and ecologically distinctive volcanic and coastal landscape, and soils are high in iron and minerals. Our spearmint is grown by medicinal herbalist and naturist farmers who believe in the principles of sustainable and organic farming. Crops are managed with generous dressings of compost and pea straw for moisture retention and weed control.

Spearmint has been shown to relieve digestive symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and bloating.

Spearmint is high in beneficial antioxidant compounds. Antioxidants are natural chemical compounds found in plants that help protect against, and repair damage caused by free radicals, which are harmful molecules that can lead to oxidative stress.

Oxidative stress has been linked to several chronic conditions, including heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

Spearmint tea may have beneficial effects on hormones in women, including decreasing male hormones like testosterone and increasing hormones necessary for ovulation. Spearmint may also help reduce facial hair growth in women, by reducing the level of androgens in women with hirsutism. A second, 30-day study, of 41 women with polycystic ovary syndrome, produced similar results.

There’s some evidence that Spearmint may help improve memory. Early research shows that taking an extract of a special type of spearmint daily, might help with thinking skills in older adults who have started to notice problems with thinking.

Early research shows that spearmint reduces pain and stiffness by a small amount in people with knee osteoarthritis

Some scientific evidence suggests that spearmint works similarly to common blood pressure medications in lowering blood pressure.

May help reduce nausea and vomiting after surgery.

Spearmint has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, which may help kill the bacteria in your mouth that cause bad breath.
